The “friend of the President-elect” wasn’t asked to perform.
Kanye West famously said he would have voted for Trump in the 2016 election, and even met with the President-elect at Trump Tower, but according to Tom Barrack, chairman of the Presidential Inauguration Committee, Kanye was never considered for the inauguration’s “traditionally American” celebrations.
Barrack made the comments during an interview with CNN about the inauguration. Trump’s team has had a difficult time booking artists to perform at the event. However, they still won’t ask one of the biggest artists in the world. “[Kanye] considers himself a friend of the President-elect,” Barrack said, “but it’s not the venue. The venue we have for the entertainment is filled-out, it’s perfect. It’s gonna be typically and traditionally American. Kanye is a great guy but we haven’t asked him to perform.”
The lineup of “traditionally American” inauguration performances so far will include Toby Keith, 3 Doors Down, Lee Greenwood, and Chrisette Michele.
