Tuesday, December 9, 2017 was a somber day for many Americans as our First Black President and coolest dude on the planet, Barack Obama gave his farewell speech to the nation. To open the night, POTUS selected hometown crooner BJ The Chicago Kid to sing The Star Spangled Banner. While this was indeed fitting and cool, I always find myself comparing all renditions of the song unfairly to the GOAT of R&B Crooning, Marvin Gaye.
In 1983 at the NBA All-Star game, Marvin Gaye delivered an unprecedented rendition of the National Anthem so smooth that you would feel like it was 1:45am and the DJ just screamed last call. Like Obama, Marvin was cool, smooth, never frazzled and loved by the masses. Just like we miss Marvin, we will miss the Barack and the whole Obama Family in the White House and in our daily lives. “Oh say, can you see?”
